The goal of the neighbourhood party was to provide an opportunity to meet the many new families who have recently moved into the neighbourhood and to strengthen the sense of safety and communication within the community by connecting everyone.
The event was attended by roughly 60 people from the neighbourhood from ages 6 months to 80+, and games, food, and pirately camaraderie were the theme of the day.

Highlights for the younger set were the fishing derby and a scavenger hunt. For adults and teens, there was a ladder ball tournament and adults only a head and tails 50/50. Money from the 50/50 covered the prizes for the ladder ball tournament.
There were some really wonderful people who stepped up to do the lion’s share of the work involved in throwing the party, and big thanks go out to all who purchased food, helped with set up and clean up afterwards, hauled coolers, tables, put up decorations, organized games and prizes. I can’t thank you enough! And thank you to everyone who dressed up and came together to make this a success!

Thanks to the generous Neighbourhood Small Grant sponsored by the Bowen Island Community Foundation and the Vancouver Foundation, we were able to purchase food for all the participants, decorations to help make things fun (and they were!), and prizes for the games. There was a huge effort made by many community members to procure a large barbecue, propane, smokies, hot dogs and all the fixings, and to get all the heavy items down to the beach and then return them to their rightful places afterwards.
