What we did here at Kickstart Soccer is teach kids about the basic fundamentals of soccer, such as passing, shooting, defending, teamwork, and more. We also brought in a soccer coach of multiple years to teach the kids his experiences, tips, and tricks for soccer.
Overall, the kids engaged with the activities and participated very well and enjoyed the camp. Some of the challenges of making the event were getting the permit because the city would always drag its feet before answering my application and would answer one day before the event, so after a while a decided I would have to give them a 30 day advanced notice. This worked and they give me a 2 week notice for me to schedule the camp. I also was surprised by how many girls showed up to the event, which shows the rise in participation in sports by women. There was almost 1 girl for 1 boy, which shows how we as a society have progressed and changed. I also brought some of my family members to help run the event, which I recommend that you do as sometimes your event will be to much to handle, alone. This grant has taught me organization skills, leadership skills, social skills. For example I learned how to deal with different age groups, how to lead classes, how to reach out to coaches and network with them, how to apply for permits and etc. Overall, I enjoyed my time organizing this camp, I also learned valuable skills from arranging this camp.
