Working with resin has always been something I’ve enjoyed. Thanks to the YNSG, I was able to share that passion through my project to the community. My idea was to connect with teens in our neighbourhood, and to share skills with them on how to work with UV resin safely over four workshops. Each workshop lasted about 90 minutes and had a different focus, all based around UV resin art.
There were five attendees for each workshop, ranging from ages 11 to 14. In the beginning of all the workshops, I explained the possible risks of using UV resin as well as how to use it safely. The first workshop was for keychains, a very popular session. Attendees made multiple charms with resin and used different tools to customize their own keychains. For the second workshop, participants were able to express their creativity by making earrings. A few returning teens showed more confidence working with resin as they came back for the second time. Due to cancellation, the last two sessions had to be combined together. This time, we focused on making magnets and pins. All individuals seem to enjoy the conversation as we worked together and created lots of items to bring home
Meeting new people and creating art together was a unique experience. I’ve learned so much through this project and heard good feedback from attendees. With the demand for more make and take sessions for teens, I hope to have a chance to do more in the future. Thanks to Youth Neighborhood Small Grants Richmond for giving me this opportunity to serve my neighbourhood, it couldn’t be done without them!
