Thanks to a neighbourhood small grant, I built two raised garden beds in front of my house, filled them with soil, and purchased and planted dahlia tubers. Once the dahlias flowered, I began giving away flowers to people walking down the street, neighbours, local schools etc. I have had so many incredible conversations about community, gardening, and dahlias and have met many wonderful people who live in this neighbourhood. I have given away between 75-100 bouquets! Gardening is my passion; it has been a joy to share with others. Building, planting, fertilizing, watering and maintaining the garden took significantly more time and effort than I expected but building community has been wonderful!
